The SSL certificate is the means that will help the visitor to know that the website is offering identity and secure and there is no foolproof way your information will be abused. In general, there are two SSL certificates that are used for the website, ie a signed certificate and the certificate of origin. According to the signed certificate, it would mean that a certifying authentic, such as VeriSign has approved the validity of a particular website. Approving the validity of a particular website, the certifying authority is to recognize that the site is perfectly safe to complete transactions. However, the certificate of origin shall become effective when the visitor performs a transaction online.
Things to know about SSL
there are several types of SSL certificates and each certificate has its own characteristics. Let's take a quick look on a variety of certificates and their respective functions:
The dedicated Secure SSL Certificates are expensive to purchase and require unique domain name, so why not be used with multiple domain names and sub domains.
Shared Certificates - Certificates can be easily shared with other sites and are relatively less expensive than dedicated SSL. You can use the shared SSL certificate to any other site with your company's web site. The name on the certificate is the name of the owner who has the certificate. These certificates are usually offered by the commerce and web hosting company.
Free SSL Certificates - Certificates are offered at negligible cost, and hence the term free SSL certificate. The level of encryption on these certificates is not on par with SSL shared or dedicated. In order to obtain the right level of encryption, it is imperative that you get free SSL certificate from famous web hosting company.
Wildcard SSL Certificate - The certificate is the best match for Web sites that use sub domains, and ensure foolproof security for these domains. The certificate is sufficient to provide protection to the web portal in a holistic manner.
In juice, if you are going to choose SSL secured services, it becomes very instrumental in comparing different types of SSL certificates available on the Internet and then purchase at competitive prices. Make sure you are not in a hurry, looking for numbers of bits. While 128-bit encryption is the industry standard, you can also buy for greater numbers of encryption for added security. Some companies are also offering 58-bit.
